If you have an annual gas bill of less than
£1,000 (73,000 kilowatt hours (kWh)) you can obtain a gas supply from any licensed domestic gas
supplier. If you use more than £1,000 you can obtain a supply from suppliers
licensed by Ofgem to
supply businesses.
Electricity
If you have an annual electricity bill of less
than £800 (12,000 kWh) you can obtain an electricity supply from any
licensed domestic
electricity supplier. If you use more than £800 you can obtain a supply from
suppliers licensed by Ofgem to
supply businesses.
The difference between the two categories is that there are more safeguards in place to protect domestic customers, whereas business customers are able to negotiate their contract directly with their electricity supplier or authorized consultant (i.e. Utilities-Online).
